There is no requirement for importers (companies or individuals) to hold an import licence to import goods into Australia. However, depending on the nature of the goods and regardless of value, importers might need to obtain permits to clear certain imported goods from customs control.
The minimum amount of documentation required for customs clearance comprises a completed Customs Entry or Informal Clearance Document (ICD), an air waybill (AWB) or bill of lading (BLAD), as well as invoices and other documents relating to the importation.
You can lodge an electronic import permit application through the Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system. An application levy of AUD120 applies as outlined in the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment Charging guidelines.
